PURPOSE:To produce a glycolate in high yield, economically and advantageously with a small amount of by-product by oxidizing a monoethylene glycol through dehydrogenation in the presence of an alkali metal oxide, water and a catalyst containing copper or copper and zirconium. CONSTITUTION:A monoethylene glycol is oxidized through dehydrogenation in the presence of an alkali metal oxide, water and a catalyst containing copper or copper and zirconium by adding 0.8-1.3mol alkali metal oxide based on the monoethylene glycol to be used for the reaction to produce a glycolate. |
