The outer packaging layer is made from a film (2) of a material which can be thermally welded and is wrapped round an inner rigid container and then folded to form a suspension lug (11) at one end of the container. The outer layer can be made in the form of a sleeve which fits over the inner container and projects beyond both its ends - more at one end than the other. The shorter projecting end is folded to cover the end of the container, and the longer one is folded to make both an end cover and the suspension lug, using welded folds which can be corrugated or ribbed during the welding process. An aperture (10) is made in the lug for suspending the package, and the rim of the aperture can be reinforced. The outer packaging layer can be made, for example, from polypropylene or cellulose which is treated to make it thermally weldable. USE/ADVANTAGE - Outer wrapping of lightweight prod. displayed for sale, e.g. in supermarket. Prod. is protected during display by wrapping which is cheap and easy to produce and is also suitable for suspension.
