The fixed bed reactor for biological waste water treatment is provided with an intermediate base (1) carrying base nozzles (2) by means of which the fixed bed can be backwashed. The inlet (3) for the waste water is located above the fixed bed. According to the invention, aeration nozzles (21) are integrated in the base nozzles (2) by means of which aeration nozzles gas bubbles (23) can be incorporated in the upper part of the base nozzles (2), without instabilities arising. In order that a stable equal distribution of the aeration occurs everywhere in the reactor, the open cross-section in the overall inlet region of each base nozzle (2) must be dimensioned so that above the aeration nozzles (21), the waste water outlet flow does not hinder the rise of the gas bubbles (23). If this condition is not fulfilled, the situation depicted in the picture (Figure 1a) can occur.

|
