NEW ALPHA-ALUMINA SYSTEM CATALYST CARRIER

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst carrier which is used for an auto exhaust catalyst or the like, has high catalytic activity, enables the regeneration of the catalyst in an easy low-cost manner and facilitates the recycling of a noble metal by an easy production process without requiring the conventional wash coating step. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst carrier contains at least 90 wt.% α-alumina having at least 95% purity and up to about 10 wt.% oxygen promoter and has about 0.2-0.6 cm<3> /g porosity, about 0.2-10 m<2> /g surface area and about 0.1-100 μm average pore diameter. The carrier preferably has a lower silicate content and the oxygen promoter exists preferably in 1-5 wt.%. The oxygen promoter is oxide of a metal such as cerium or molybdenum.
