PURPOSE:To obtain a new substance HQ24 or its salt capable of scavenging active oxygen radicals, having a strong inhibitory effect on generation of a lipoperoxide and useful as a medicine for preventing or improving ischemic diseases or various kinds of diseases such as inflammation of various kinds of organs, edema and cancer. CONSTITUTION:A compound HQ24 represented by the formula (R1 to R3 are each Cl or Br) or its salt adduct, e.g. a compound in which R1 to R3 are Cl. The compound of the formula is obtained, e.g. by culturing an HQ24 strain (Bikoken stipulation No. 4037) belonging to Actinomycetes and exhibiting HQ24 productivity in various kinds of culture media at 27 deg.C for about 3 weeks and collecting the product from the cultured materials. The compound HQ24 is useful, e.g. for ischemic diseases of various kinds of organs such as brain, heart, intestine or liver, ischemic recirculation disorder, rheumatism, arteriosclerosis, pulmonary oxygen intoxication, Alzheimer's type dementia, sepsis, asthma, endotoxin shock, ulcer, cataract, inflammation of various kinds of organs such as bronchitis, hepatitis, pancreatitis, dermatitis, arthritis or nephritis, further for edema, cancer, radiation damage or disorder following organ transplantation. |
