PURPOSE: To form a continuous ribbon loop by a method wherein two ribbon ends clamped in overlapping configuration are welded to form a continuous ribbon loop and waste ribbon ends are cut off from the continuous ribbon loop. CONSTITUTION: Two ribbon ends are clamped by left and right arm devices 400 and 500 in overlapping configuration. Controlled tension is applied to the ribbon ends by tensioners 200 and 300 and, in this state, the ribbon ends are welded from edge to edge along a narrow weld bead. With this process, a continuous ribbon loop positioned by the tensioners 200 and 300 and two waste ribbon ends held by the arm devices 400 and 500 are formed. Then the waste ribbon ends are repositioned and cut off from both the ends of the ribbon loop at positions near the weld bead by a cutter 1000. With this constitution, a continuous ribbon loop extending in a ribbon cartridge can be formed. |
