PURPOSE:To optimize groove formation of an optical fiber to achieve the longevity by forming a tilted circumferential surface by means of a spiral grinding surface based on a tangent line as a reference in relation to a cutting edge ridge, while determining a specific surface roughness, and by forming the cutting edge ridge with a predetermined land width. CONSTITUTION:A mounting hole 2 is formed in the center part of a main body 1, while a pair of tilted circumferential surfaces 3 forming an apex angle thetaand a cutting edge ridge 4 by means of the tolerance ridge of the tilted circumferential surface 3 are formed on the outer peripheral part. The surface roughtness of the tilted circumferential surface 3 is determined as 0.2-0.3SRmax. The tilted circumferential surface 3 is ground into a spiral grinding surface based on a tangent line of the cutting edge ridge 4 as a reference. A grooved cutter for cutting surely has the cutting edge ridge 4 of the land width of 1-3mum. Namely, a specific surface roughness of the tilted surface 3 is adopted for the grooved cutter for cutting, while the specific land width is required for the cutting edge ridge, and the longevity of an optical fiber is thus expected at the time of cutting work. |
