FIBER-REINFORCED SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCT MADE OF MEDIUM- OR HIGH-VISCOSITY THERMOPLASTIC RESIN AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a thermally moldable semi-finished product from a thermoplastic resin having medium or high viscosity by wetting a large number of continuous filaments with a specific thermoplastic polymer melt having predetermined melt viscosity at a time of processing. CONSTITUTION: A large number of continuous filaments having a single filament diameter of 7-30μm are parallelly arranged to be stretched and the formed filament band is wetted with a thermoplastic polymer melt by a melt pultrusion method. The filament band is pulled on the surfaces of at least two heating spreaders to set the continuous filament vol. of the coagulated filament tape to 5-70 vol.%. Herein, the viscosity of the melt measured at a low shearing speed is set to 105-2500 Ns/m<2> (=Pa.S) and the tension at the time of the advance of the filament band on the surface of the first spreader is 5-50 N per 400 single filaments and the speed of the filament band is set to at least 3 m/min. The viscosity of the melt is pref. 130-2,000 Pa.S.
