PURPOSE:To prevent a connecting section from being soaked in salt water due to the exposure of the connecting section by disposing the connecting section of a shift case to a shift rod within a cowling in the marine vessel propulsion engine in which a propulsion unit is supported below an engine unit covered by the cowling in such a way as to be capable of being steered. CONSTITUTION:The marine vessel propulsion engine 10 is equipped with an engine unit 4 fixedly supported by the hull side, a propulsion unit 5 which is disposed below the engine unit while being supported in such a way as to be capable of being steered through a bearing section 4e, and with a cowling 3 which is supported by the hull side to cover the circumference of the engine unit 4. In the aforesaid constitution, a shift rod 6f for shifting forward/reverse speeds of the propulsion unit 5 is faced to the inside of the cowling 3 acting as a meshing part through the inner diameter side of a bearing section 4e. One end of a shift cable extended from a shift operating element is inserted into the cowling 3 so as to be connected to the shift rod 6f via a shift arm 6e. By this constitution, it is thereby dissolved that the connecting section of the shift cable and the shift rod 6f is exposed outside. |
