The unit contains an open impeller blade (5) furnished with blades (6) placed inside a housing (1,2). An inlet (3) is defined at the base of the blades near the central drive shaft (22) plus its associated outlet (4) provided with a fixed diffuser (7) situated in the region of the periphery of the blades. A system of active axial equilibrium (51,71,14,15) of the assembly is integrated with the impeller. It consists of a balancing chamber (14) between the rear face of the impeller body and the rear section (2) of the housing, with the impeller itself acting as the balancing plate. The inlet to the chamber is via the adjusting gap (8) formed by the fixed piece (71) and the tip (51) of the impeller, and the outlet is via the gap (15) to a channel connecting to the suction.
