CCD camera system for control of flow on belt conveyor - evaluates shape and vol. of moving mass by processing of image of bright band projected onto surface

An artificial light source projects a band of light onto the flowing material (7) whose top surface (OK) is scanned by the camera (6). The image processing unit analyses the movement and determines the cross-sectional area (F) of the flow and its vol. according to the speed of the conveyor belt. The distances (AL, AR) of the edges of the belt from its frame (5) are also determined and equalised by operation of a control unit. USE/ADVANTAGE - In lignite mining, belt wear is minimised and skew running is prevented by single camera performing continuous surveillance with high precision.
