The press section giving a long or shoe pressure gap to give a structured pressure on the web to extract water, has a facility to reduce the stiffness at the edge zones of at least the roller mantle and/or the pressure belt and/or the pressure shoe. Pref. the edge zone of at least one of the press section units is relatively thin, or can be weakened locally through drillings or grooves, or can be formed through a relatively elastic material. USE/ADVANTAGE - The press gap structure is designed to give an increasing pressure on the web followed by a decreasing pressure, for the water extraction. The system reduces the wear at the edge zones of the units in the press section.
