The device has an antenna arrangement. As in known microstrip conductor or patch antenna this has at least two conductive surfaces (1, 2) on top of each other, separated by a dielectric layer (3). One surface includes one or more radiating elements or patches (1). The arrangement also has a microwave supply device. The dielectrics, surface spacing, size and shape of the radiating element(s) (1), coupling points and supply line(s) (4) are selected taking into consideration the loss and interaction through a near-field radiating medium of predetermined power. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for killing bacteria in air streams, for use in base plate of oven, etc. Compact and inexpensive system which is pressure and temp. stable and provides effective microwave heating.
