There is disclosed a novel design of hinge (17) which serves to hingedly mount a door (16) on an upright frame member (13) forming part of a rectangular frame which defines a loading/unloading opening (12) to a container (10), in which the hinge has a seating portion (21) to engage the face (22) of the door (16) and a two part off-set portion (23) carrying a pivot mounting (24) to form an off-set hinge axis (25) which enables door (16) to move to a closed position within the plane of the frame defining opening (12). The off-set portion (23) has a first part (26) which is stepped with respect to the seating portion (21) to define a shallow recess (27) in which a flange portion (28) of a door edge seal (29) can be received and which adjoints the seating portion (21) via a neck region (30), and a second part (32) which extends outwardly away from the first part (26) to carry the pivot mounting (24) which provides the off-set hinge axis (25), in which a groove (34) is formed in the neck region (30) of the seating portion (21) and which is open towards the face (22) of the door (16), and a port (35) is formed in the outer face of the hinge (17) and which communicates with groove (34), whereby a sealant can be injected into the groove (34) from externally of the hinge via port (35) so as to provide a sealant barrier (36) along the interface (31) between neck region (30) and the face (22) of the door (16) and thereby resist ingress of moisture to the underside of the hinge which would otherwise give rise to risk of corrosion of the hinge and/or the door face over a period of time. <IMAGE> |
