Gas purification device having at least two openings to allow the gas to flow through the housing; at least one pair of magnetisable tongue contacts arranged within the housing; a solenoid for opening/closing the contact pair(s) identified; a contact energising coil which is connected to the contact pair(s) identified; and a catalyst element which is at least arranged to be in the proximity of the identified contact pair(s). USE/ADVANTAGE - Removal of atmospheric contaminating gases/vapours e.g. oxides of carbon and nitrogen, and hydrocarbons, from exhaust gases, e.g. from vehicle ic engines. Plasma formed from glow-discharge breaks down the toxic molecules in presence of a catalyst, to elemental gases, etc.
