Steering for multi-axle vehicle

The axles are each steered by separate control arms (1,2,3,4) with the main axle (1) steered directly by the steering linkage (9,10). One axle (4) is steered via a variable proportional steering box (13) connected to the direct steering control. The remaining axles have their control arms connected to transverse control arms (20,30) whose ends are linked to steering rods coupled to the main and proportional steering axle. This provides the required proportional steering for the subsidiary axles. The required proportionality of the subsidiary axles is generated by the mechanical advantages of the transverse steering arms. The system can be set, via the proportional control for different modes of tracking as well as for steering all wheels in the same direction for crabwise movement.
