In the production process according to the invention, the starting material used for the quartz glass melting is a homogenized raw material mixture comprising purified, pegmatitic quartz sand and up to 5 percent by weight of cerium aluminate (CeAlO3) and optionally further dopants (dopes). The process is very inexpensive and gives homogeneous quartz glass of low UV transparency.
