A booster (2) for use in combination with a portable radio apparatus is provided, in which power consumed by a power amplifier (22) for amplifying a burst transmitting signal is reduced. The booster (2) controls the power amplifier (22) on the basis of timing information of the leading and trailing edges of the burst tranmsmitting signal delivered from the portable radio apparatus such that power supply to the power amplifier is substantially interrupted in a time interval during which no burst transmitting signal is existent. <IMAGE>
