The antenna includes surface segments (2) of electrically conductive material. The segments (2) are arranged in a rectangular pattern, in adjacent rows, without a connecting supply network. The antenna also includes a plane parallel earth surface (7) and a dielectric (5) between the two surfaces (1, 7). To excite the antenna, a segment (2) in the centre of the arrangement is connected via an eccentric supply point (4) in the segment (2) to the inner conductor (9) of a coaxial cable (8). Power is supplied to the other segments (2) by parasitic coupling with the central segment. The segments (2) have different side lengths (W, L). The frequency band width of the antenna is determined by the arrangement and number of segments (2) and the variation in side lengths (W, L). The lengths (W, L) vary within the rows, step-wise, from a minimum to a maximum surface. The step variation is in the opposite sense for adjacent rows. ADVANTAGE - Improves characteristics, esp. band width,so that the values of traditional "three-dimensional" technique are attained with simultaneous simplification of electrical and mechanical construction and reduced of total cost.
