The trolley hoist has a lifting head (5) which by use of a releasable connection (7) can be engaged with a loaded spit (8). This lifts it from a rack and transport it at the correct height for insertion in a vertical roasting grill. The connection (7) is formed by engagement of an open ended slot (20) in the lifting head (5) with a reduced neck (21) just below the point (22) of the spit (8). The spit is carried by abutment of the neck shoulder (24a) against the seating (24) in the top surface of the lifting head. ADVANTAGE - Heavy spit roast can be safely and hygienically handled.)
