Sewing-machine needle 62, including a cylindrical shaft 12, a blade 14, 16, and a sharp needle point 60, formed at a more remote end of the said blade, on which a long and continuous concave-shape groove 28 is provided in such a manner as to be extended from the said shaft 12 as far as a portion of the said blade 14, 16, close to the said needle point 60, a needle hole 30 being formed along the said long groove 28 and the said blade being formed with a clearance 40 above the hole, which is manufactured without producing any burr on a blade, subjecting the entire blade to die-pressing. An unfinished needle 10 is subjected to double stamping, the result being the formation of blade sections 14, 16. The unfinished needle is then formed with an elongate portion in order subsequently to form a clearance 40 above the hole, in front of a needle hole 30. Die-pressing allows both the lateral surfaces of a long groove 28 to be spaced from one another by a predetermined angle and the clearance 40 above the hole and the hole portion 30 to be formed. The sewing-machine needle 62 thus formed has sufficient stiffness and a larger space between the blade and the sewing line, resulting in a sewing operation carried out with stability and with greater speed.
