Devices for the transshipment of diverse cargo in the form of cargo units 3, such as containers, replaceable receptacles, lorry trailers, etc. between road vehicles and rail vehicles 2, which comprise one or a number of stores 5, 6 with one or a number of tracks for the units of cargo 3 located on one side of a railway track 1, which may be single-track or multiple-track, and a road with one or more lanes 9, on the other side of the store 5, 6, as well as lifting apparatuses 10, 11 for the transfer of the units of cargo 3. In order to reduce the ground area required, in order to simplify the lifting apparatuses to be used and in order to speed up transshipment, in a device of this type the stores 5, 6 have to be divided into two parts in the longitudinal direction, with a workspace 7 between the two parts of the store 5, 6 and a cargo-lifting apparatus 11 has to be assembled in a secure manner on each one of the sides of the work space 7. The width of the work space 7 corresponds at least to the length of the largest unit of cargo to be used. In the work space 7 it is possible to move a store lifting apparatus, which serves the parts 5, 6 of the store. The cargo-lifting apparatuses 11 have a range of at least 3/4 of the length of the largest unit of cargo and serve for loading and unloading the vehicles 2, especially during passage thereof, in front, at slow speed. <IMAGE>
