The present invention provides compounds of the general formula (I): <IMG> (I) wherein: each of R1 and R2 independently is hydrogen or methyl; R3 is hydrogen, halo, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C3 alkoxy or trifluoromethyl; each R4 independently is hydrogen, halo, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C3 alkoxy or trifluoromethyl; m is 1 or 2; when m is 2, each R4 can be combined to form methylenedioxy; and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of formula (I) as described above, as the active ingredient. These compounds are selective inhibitors of serotonin uptake, and are useful for the treatment of such conditions as obesity, depression, alcoholism,loss of memory, and anxiety.
