Device (1) for the treatment of surplus foundry sand comprises (a) a stirring mechanism (2) made up of a trough (2) inside which are two endless screws (24,26) enmeshed with each other and rotating in the same directional sense; and (b) a heating system (3) consisting of a circuit contg. a heat carrying liq. connected to the stirring mechanism (3), a boiler (31) to heat the liq. and fitted with a heat regulator and a pump (P) for circulating the heat carrying liq. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device is used for the treatment of foundry sands to allow their recycling. The device allows the regeneration of surplus foundry sand and renders it into a state that facilitates its transport by removing the polymers used as binders in the foundry operations. It is able to handle sand that is in the form of lumps due to the binders used in the prodn. of foundry moulds and cores.
