PURPOSE:To shorten the detection time required for the positional information of the characterizing points of an eyeball necessary for line-of-sight detection by limiting detection range to the corresponding range to the respective characterizing points when the positional information of the characterizing points of an eyeball is detected. CONSTITUTION:Infrared rays are incident upon an eye lens 1 and reflected by a dichroic mirror 1a to illustrate the eyeball 201 of an observer, which is located near to an eye point E. Also, infrared rays reflected by an eyeball 201 are reflected by the dichroic mirror 1a again and an image is formed on a photoelectric transfer element array 6 through a light-intercepting lens 4. An one-chip microcomputer 109 processes the signal of the image of an eyeball which is obtained from the photoelectric transfer of the photoelectric transfer element array 6 to detect the information of attention points. The information is utilized for multi-point focus detection operation and display operation. That is, focus control is performed on the basis of the focus detection results in a ranging point near to an attention point and at the same time the place to which an observer paid attention is displayed within the finder of a camera with a display element 103. |
