PURPOSE:To accurately measure a proceeding direction of a shield machine without being influenced by its postural direction. CONSTITUTION:First and second acceleration sensors 20 and 22 detecting acceleration component in a moving plane containing a postural direction 100 of a shield machine as acceleration component directed to first and second directions 110 and 120 crossing each other through the postural direction 100 mentioned above are provided. On the basis of the acceleration component to the first and second directions 110 and 120, acceleration components v1 and v2 of the shield machine to the first and second directions are calculated. Based on an intersecting angle (theta) of the first and second directions 110 and 120 against the spostural direction 100 and the acceleration components v1 and v2 to the first and second directions 110 and 120, a proceeding direction V of the shield machine is calculated.
