A seal between a housing (3) and a rotatable shaft (2) is provided, comprising a first ring member (5) generally concentric with a rotatable shaft (2), the first ring member (5) being attachable to the shaft in a non-rotatable position relative to the shaft, the first ring member (5) further having an annular self-lubricating sealing surface (6) facing away from the first ring member (5); and wherein the sealing surface is adapted to face a fixed annular surface (9) and to slidably and sealingly engage the fixed annular surface (9) when the first ring member is biased toward the fixed surface (9). The self-lubricating surface (6) may be provided on a sealing ring (11) which is biased against the fixed surface. The self-lubricating surface (6), sealing ring (11) and/or first ring member (5) may be constructed of a fluoroplastic material such as glass filled polytetrafluoro-ethylene. |
