FUEL INJECTION NOZZLE

A fuel injection nozzle of the pintle type has a projection (21) formed on the valve member (19). The projection has a cylindrical portion (28) which forms a small working clearance with the wall of an outlet opening (18). The cylindrical portion is followed by a tapered portion (30) and formed on the cylindrical portion and the adjacent part of the tapered portion is a notch (33) which when the valve member starts to move to the open position allows fuel to flow to the engine. The flow of fuel along the notch ceases as further movement takes place and the fuel flow is then controlled by the tapered portion of the projection.
