The brush (3) is arranged for rotation by the support (1) and is retractable within the tube (6) during process of inserting the device through a scope (10) in preparation for the collection of a specimen. Once the site to be investigated has been reached, the brush (3) is extended from the tube (6) and rotated to debride the area concerned. A coupling (5) provides for removal of the specimen, rotation of the brush (3) and independent axial movement of the support (1) and tube (6) relative to each other and the scope (10). The method of using the device is also included.
