<p>A grease primarily for use with constant velocity joints comprises a base oil, which may be a mineral oil, or synthetic oil, or a mixture of such oils, and a lithium-based soap thickener, which may be a simple lithium soap or a complex lithium soap, in combination with: (1) an organo-molybdenum complex capable of functioning as a friction reducing additive; (2) an anti-wear/anti-oxidant compound; (3) an organo-sulphur compound extreme pressure additive; and (4) an organo-phosphorus compound extreme pressure additive. A grease in accordance with this formulation has been found to exhibit an unexpected combination of low friction and low wear characteristics when used in constant velocity joints.</p> |
