A connecting element (3) for holding different rods is mountable in a socket (2) on an aluminium base plate (1). The connecting element has a tube into which the rods are inserted. The tube may be forked to accept one or more rods at different angles. Alternatively, a separate forked part (6) may be inserted into the tube. Or, the connector may be a six sided bolt (3b) with a multi holed ball for attaching the rods, or it may be a threaded bar (34) which is screwed into the socket of the base plate. The base plate may be reinforced. USE/ADVANTAGE - For vehicle and caravan covers and may also be used for tarpaulins, awnings and sun, wind and rain shields for vehicles. It can be used on hard surfaces eg. stones, concrete asphalt car-parks etc. as well as on soft surfaces such as sand, grass etc. It is simple and quick to construct and is secure.
