To apply a rapid-setting coating to a carrier, the fluid or paste coating material is applied to a heated calender roller in discrete lines or points. The pressure of a counter roller spreads the lines or points outwards, as a film layer over the calender across the carrier width. Also claimed is an appts. with a heated calender roller (4) and a counter roll (5'). An applicator delivers the fluid or paste coating material to the calender roller surface as points or lines (7) through at least one jet at the dosing unit. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is for the application of a synthetic resin coating to carriers such as woods, impregnated wovens or non-wovens, paper, hardboard, or metal and plastics films and foils and the like.
