The heart valve prosthesis (1) is for replacement of the mitral valve or tricuspidal valve, and comprises a mitral valve (2) of a homologous or heterologous distribution, whereby the heart valve is fixed along the annular valve tissue with non-resorbable seam material in a seam ring (3). On the posterior velum (2b) in the central section (6) or nearer the commissures a ripple is formed and the resection ends are adapted with single knot seams. Over the papillary muscle heads (5) a plastic patch (8) is sewn, which represents an aid in the implantation for fixing to the heart wall. As reinforcement for the natural velum fibres a plastic fibre (10) is fixed to the seam ring (3). The plastic used is pref. PTFE. USE/ADVANTAGE - A mitral valve as a heart valve prosthesis. It can be transplanted as a complete mitral valve with its components (anterior and posterior velums, mitral ring, chordae tendineae, fibrous parts of the papillary muscle).
