A stethoscope chestpiece (10) is disclosed having an acoustic-to-electrical transducer (34) residing within the acoustic pathway (25) of the chestpiece(10). The transducer (34) resides within a mounting (35) that can provide shock attenuation and vibration isolation. The transducer (34) preferably resides within a coaxial position in the acoustic pathway (25). The chestpiece (10) is useful in a stethoscope (1) which can be electrically connected to auscultation systems.
