A refuse container (10, 106) for predominantly recyclable materials includes at least one compartment (39, 40, 41, 42, 43 or 97, 98, 99, 100, 101) adapted in a first position to be loaded with recyclable material at an entry location at a first end of said compartment. The compartment (39, 40, 41, 42, 43 or 97, 98, 99, 100, 101) is adapted to discharge said material from an exit location (55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60) at a second end of the compartment when the compartment is caused to tilt to a second position whereby the first end is higher than the second end whereby the material passes through said exit location under the influence of gravity. The compartments of the container can be served by a compactor (38) and paddle-type compactor (27) combination or by a combined feeder/compactor such as blade assembly (64, 65, 66, 67, 68) located within a refuse receiving casing (69). The compartments can be of variable volume defined by divider panels (102, 103, 104, 105). |
