The initial recording start time is updated to adjust it to an actual start time of a desired broadcast program. Simultaneously, the initial recording end time is updated to a time determined by adding the predetermined period of time to the updated start time. Further, the video cassette recorder has a rechargeable battery which serves to save the time information and the preprogramming information stored in a memory in case of a power failure.
