<p>The basin (12) of a parts washer includes a spigot (14) for showering parts to be washed with a solvent (66) and a drain (50) for draining contaminant entrained solvent (66). The drain (50) conveys the contaminant entrained solvent (66) into a removable tank (60) containing a filtering fluid (62), such as water (62) of a higher density than the solvent (66). The solvent (66) percolates upwardly through the filtering fluid (62) into an upper tank. During percolation, the contaminants are segregated from the solvent and migrate to the bottom of the tank (60). In a variant parts washer, the solvent (66) floats upon the filtering fluid (62) in a common tank and the contaminants, in the form of a sludge, are segregated from freestanding filtering fluid and are collected as a moist, but not wet, sludge in a removable tank for disposal.</p> |
