A protective device to prevent overheating articles, and heat-shrink cable sleeves in particular, consists of a heat-resistant coating. It has a colour protection, and, in use, it is applied to the surface of the heat-shrink article where the latter faces the heat. The temp. indicator used is pref. based on polyamide, (for cable sleeves). The example shown is a heat-shrink sleeve (1) with two longitudinal undercut fittings (5) and an interlocking rail (6). The outer face is coated with the protective layer (3), the inner face of the sleeve (1) itself can also be coated (4) similarly with a conventional hot melt adhesive. ADVANTAGE - The device not only provides effective protection but immediately shows also if the critical temp. range is reached. It enables the article to be heated more rapidly and can ensure uniform temp.distribution, e.g. when using a hot melt adhesive.
