The invention relates to a transdermal therapeutic system containing the active agent 17- beta -estradiol and possibly other active agents with a layered structure from a substantially moisture and active agent-impermeable substrate, one or more matrix layers and, if there are no adhesive matrix layers, an adhesive layer, in which the concentration of the dissolved estradiol in all the matrix layers and in the adhesive layer if it exists is between its saturation concentration in the dry state and that in the wet state, by "dry state" being meant that the basic material is in equilibrium with a gas phase with a relative humidity of under 10 % and by "wet state" being meant that the basic material is in equilibrium with a gas phase with a relative humidity of over 90 %.
