An extruder drive system has a casing, an input drive shaft, output drive shaft connected to the screw, and various other features. It has an input toothed rim on the input shaft and similarly one on the output shaft, and at least one intermediate gearwheel on at least one intermediate shaft with toothed rim. The casing has mounting holes and sealed covers. The casing is one-piece with square or rectangular section as seen from in the direction of the input or output shaft. The output shaft is supported by a pressure bearing acting through the output gearwheel on the side opposite that for the screw and against the back-pressure on the screw shaft. This bearing is held on the sealed cover; the input shaft is held at both ends on a tapered roller bearing and a rim cover is located on the motor side only. ADVANTAGE - The design is simple and is versatile and compact.
