The fitting comprises a non-ferrous housing, pref. of brass, a vertical boring tool (15) and a horizontal union (18) at one side to connect to a pipe supplying a house. At the base of the housing (14) is a threaded sleeve (13) which screws into a non-ferrous, pref. brass collar (9) located in the union (7) of a polyethylene shell (5). A rubber jacket (26) is vulcanised onto the housing (14) and also covers the horizontal union (18) and the threaded sleeve (13). Heat transfer from the hot rubber to the polyethylene shell (5) at the edge (27) of the union (7) is reduced by a coating (29). USE/ADVANTAGE - Attaches to a subterranean mains gas or water pipe to allow connection of a supply pipe to a house. Easier application of the rubber jacket which has a longer service life and prevent electrolytic effects on the housing.
