PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a cathode, to increase the capacitance of a storage battery, and to obtain a storage battery minimal in reduction in capacitance due to the repetition of a charge and discharge cycle by using an Ni-Zr hydrogen storage alloy with a specific composition as a cathode material for a hermetically sealed-type N-hydrogen storage battery. CONSTITUTION:As a cathode active material for a hermetically sealed-type Ni-hydrogen storage battery, an Ni-Zr hydrogen storage alloy which has a composition consisting of, by weight, 10-37% Zr, 5-25% Ti, 4-20% Mn 0.01-13% W, 0.1-15%V, 0.1-7% Cu, 0.01-4.5% Al, and the balance Ni or further containing 0.05-6% Cr and also has an MgZn2-type crystalline structure is used. By this method, the cathode itself can be provided with superior corrosion resistance to the alkaline electrolyte of the storage battery and the discharge capacitance of the storage battery can be increased, and further, self-discharge can be remarkably reduced. |
