Acrylic fibres with an improved dispersibility in viscous matrixes, and method of making fibre reinforced composites.

There are described fibre bundles comprising staple fibres of acrylonitrile polymers which have been provided with an agent that causes the fibre bundle to hold together and which separate into their individual fibres on mixing into viscous matrix materials. The fibre bundles of the invention are characterised in that they have been provided with a water-soluble alkali metal silicate and/or an organosilane adhesion promoter. The fibre bundles of the invention are particularly useful for mixing into hydraulic materials in that the bundles will separate into individual fibres. There is no need for special mixing apparatus.
