<p>PURPOSE:To aretomatically prevent the danger of the break out of the molten steel and molten slag in a water-cooled casting mold of an electroslag remelting furnace by providing plural temp. sensors in the vertical direction of the casting mold, inputting the temps. detected by the sensors to a control device and operating annular stoppers in the lower part of the water-cooled casting mold by the output thereof. CONSTITUTION:A consumable electrode 3 consisting of a metal to be refined is immersed into the molten slag 6 in the hollow cylindrical water-cooled casting mold 1 of the electroslag remelting furnace. Electricity is conducted between an ingot 4 and the consumable electrode and the consumable electrode 3 is melted by the electric resistance heat generated in the molten slag 6, by which the metal is refined. The molten metal is drawn as a high-purity metallic ingot from the casting mold 1. The plural temp. sensors 2a-2h are provided in the casting mold 1. The molten steel 5 and the molten slag 6 break out from the bottom of the casting mold 1 if the temps. detected by the sensors are abnormally high in the lower part. A selector valve 12 is operated by the signal from the control part when the detected temp. curve shows the abnormal value. The annular stoppers 7, 8 mounted with ceramic fibers 10 are then pressed by an actuator 11 to the ingot by which the breakout of the molten steel and the molten slag and the consequential damage of the device are prevented.</p> |
