PURPOSE:To obtain the harmless and inexpensive active carbon not containing a heavy metal by subjecting waste tire carbonized char to an activation treat ment and a hydrochloric acid washing treatment. CONSTITUTION:Waste tire carbonized char is activated and subsequently washed, or the waste tire carbonized char is washed with hydrochloric acid and subsequently activated. The activation treatment can be performed by the ordinary method. For example, in the case of an activation treatment using steam, the activation treatment is performed in the atmosphere of an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon at approximately 700-1000 deg.C for about 4-8hr. The hydrochloric acid washing is carried out with the hydrochloric acid having a concentration of approximately 1-10wt.% at a hydrochloric acid temperature of room temperature to approximately 80 deg.C for the treatment time of approximately 1-24hr. |
