PRODUCTION OF FERRIC ALPHA-OXYHYDROXIDE

PURPOSE:To provide a process for producing ferric alpha-oxyhydroxide free from residual sodium in the produced fusiform ferric alpha-oxyhydroxide even by using sodium carbonate as an alkali similar to conventional process. CONSTITUTION:Ferric alpha-oxyhydroxide is produced by neutralizing a ferrous salt with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate or a mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide and oxidizing the obtained suspension composed mainly or ferrous carbonate. In the above process, the reaction system is incorporated with 0.1-5.0 pts.wt. of Ca and/or Ba based on 100 pts.wt. of Fe.
