PURPOSE:To cut a preform for optical fiber in an excellent state and to shorten cutting operation. CONSTITUTION:After position information of a core 1A and a clad 1B at a cutting part of a preform 1 for optical fiber is obtained by an image pickup means 2 of optical fiber, sending speed of a cutter 4 and a revolving speed of the preform 1 for optical fiber are adjusted to optimum speeds according to the positions of the core 1A and the clad 1B. Consequently, a transporting mechanism 5 and a revolving mechanism are regulated by a control part.
