PURPOSE:To provide the subject polymer gel useful for a biocompatible material and a functional membrane for separation, etc., composed mainly of a mixture of a specific graft copolymer having a basic group and a specific graft copolymer having an acidic group and exhibiting a specific swelling behavior depending on a variation in a pH value. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer gel is composed mainly of a mixture of (A) a graft copolymer having a water-soluble main chain with a basic group such as vinylpyridine, and a water-insoluble side chain and (B) a graft copolymer having a water-soluble main chain with an acidic group such as (meth)acrylic acid and a water-insoluble side chain at an A/B ratio of preferably 10/90-90/10. An amphoteric-ion polymer get membrane is produced by dissolving the polymer gel in a solvent such as DMF and casting the soln. in the form of a film.
