PURPOSE: To shorten the regeneration time in regenerating an ion exchanger for softening water or the like by introducing a chemical regenerating material and a rinsing soln. into the bottom of an ion-exchange bed countercurrently to an exhaust flow so that the flow is restrained. CONSTITUTION: A regenerated brine is passed through a valve 26 and introduced into an ion-exchange resin bed 16 in a vessel 10 through a distributor 24. The regenerated brine is passed upward through the bed 16 and discharged from valves 12 and 18 through a distributor 14. In this case, the duration and velocity of the regenerated brine flow are set so that the ion-exchange materials are sufficiently raised and mixed practically at the bottom 16, and the downflow is rapidly fixed in the bed 16 to terminate mixing. |
