Rubber components of a vulcanizable rubber composition are homogenized by adding to the composition, prior to vulcanization, a phenolic resin formed by reacting a bisphenol A residual resin with chlorinated C4 to C8 hydrocarbons in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts alkylation catalyst.
